Safety

Cycling 101
Bicycles must be ridden with the flow of traffic and operated as a vehicle when utilizing public roadways (a person operating a bicycle has the same rights and duties applicable to a driver operating a vehicle, Texas Traffic Code, Sec. 551.101).

I personally take control of the lane at a intersection, the person in the car will have to go around, I do not like being squeezed between the car and curb and I have control when the car passes on my right to adjust for their miss calculation of width.

Worst place I have found at an intersection is the crosswalk. People stop on top of the crosswalk and turn right without looking.
